Awareness of Learning the Qur’an in Children and Adolescents
Majalahnabawi.com – The Qur’an is the message of Allah to all humankind. Not surprisingly, this Muslim holy book fulfills all the needs of human life. The Qur’an is a noble reading, a book preserved, and no one touches it except a sacred person (Mana’ul, 1993). Allah SWT said:
“We revealed in the Qur’an healing and mercy for believers. But it increases wrongdoers in nothing but loss.” (QS. Al-Isra’ 17: Ayat 82)
Children and adolescents desire to learn to read the Qur’an. Still, some of them have inhibit factors for not learning to read it, including lack of motivation to learn, shame because there are no peers, and parents don’t care about the Qur’an.
Motivation to Read the Qur’an
Accuracy in choosing a method is likely to create conducive, fun learning conditions so that learning activities can take place effectively and efficiently in facilitating students’ ability to achieve learning outcomes (Rianto, 2006).
A person is motivated by something because of a sincere intention, so Allah moves his heart to do that. Children and teenagers will feel bored, so they don’t want to learn to read because they don’t like how it is known. Then the correct method is applied so that children and adolescents return to learning and give motivation or encouragement from the teachers.
From Utsman bin Affan, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Narrated by Bukhari, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, from the Book of At-Targhib).
Starting to Love the Qur’an
If someone says the love of this scripture, then he should try to prove his love with charity and daily actions. If love is only spoken verbally and there is no proof, then love is said to be love lies. (Kosim et al., 2019). Before children and youth learn to read the Qur’an, they must love it. A person who falls in love with the Qur’an starts reading it daily without realizing that Allah is planting love in his heart. When we read it and then study, understand, memorize, practice, and interact with it, good morals will emerge from people who genuinely love them.
Say, “If you love God, follow me, and God will love you and forgive you your sins.” God is Forgiving and Gracious. (QS. Ali ‘Imran 3: Ayat 31)
Knowing the Virtues of the Qur’an
We already know that the Qur’an is a guide to life. This scripture has many virtues for its readers and those who study it. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala says:
“This Qur’an guides to what’s most upright. And it announces to the believers who do good deeds that they’ll have a great reward.” (QS. Al-Isra’ 17: Ayat 9)
Among them, each letter is worth ten goodness. The reward is multiplied, sins are forgiven, intercession in the hereafter is elevated in rank, and feels calm in himself. In addition to getting peace from reading it, the memorization process, which means reading repeatedly, also affects the cognition of the verses of the Qur’an that have been read, memorized, and understood so that they have the correct understanding when interpreting the contents.
